Professional English Communication Skills, Microcredential (Beginning Fall 2025)
This skills and competency microcredential learning experience is designed for first semester multilingual international graduate students and aimed at facilitating professional English communication and intercultural skills. This microcredential learning experience supports student fluency in the culturally situated academic expectations, inter-relational norms, and communication skills necessary for success in a U.S. higher education institution and beyond. Students who complete this microcredential will have a strong foundation upon which to continue building their professional communication skills as they progress through their academic programs and into industry experiences.
Admission Requirements
For current, active Saint Louis University students wishing to declare a microcredential, complete the Update for Student Curriculum Record form.

Students must attend 7 in-person workshops delivered by the ELC :

2: Navigating Professional Relationships
3: Academic Integrity & Introduction to Academic Writing Formats
4: Paraphrasing, Summarizing, & Synthesizing
5: Field-specific Technical Writing Skills
6: Active Listening
7: Giving Impactful Presentations
- Students must submit assessments to demonstrate learning after workshop completion:
1: Self-assessment & goal setting
2: Mock professional email
3: Academic integrity quiz & Academic writing format quiz (APA, AMA, etc.)
4: Paraphrasing, summarizing, & synthesizing quiz + competency sample writing
5: Course/Major-specific writing sample
6: Active listening skill competency quiz
7: Oral presentation recording
