OP 0305 - Ophthalmology Career Exploration-Ophthalmology Associates

The student will have the opportunity to observe and examine patients in an outpatient clinical setting. The student will learn techniques and testing procedures utilized in examinations. There is an opportunity to observe surgical cases in an outpatient OR.

OP 0401 - Clinical Ophthalmology

Credit(s): 2-12 Credits

This elective provides students with the opportunity to develop their knowledge of clinical Ophthalmology and to acquire basic skills to perform an ophthalmic examination. The schedule of clinic activities assignment at the Saint Louis University Eye Institute, Saint Louis University Hospital, and Cardinal Glennon Pediatric Ophthalmology Department. Operating room participation is included.

OP 0405 - Pediatric Ophthalmology

Credit(s): 2-12 Credits

Work with pediatric ophthalmology residents and shadow 2 Attending pediatric ophthalmologists. This elective is designed for medical students NOT planning on entering ophthalmology. Ideally it is for future pediatric or future medical/pediatric residents who want an introduction and exposure to pediatric ophthalmology.

OP 0408 - Clinical Neuro Ophthalmology

Credit(s): 2-12 Credits

This course is for Year 4 students, (with Year 3 students considered only with permission of Dr. Chung), who plan to obtain post-graduate training in Neurology, Ophthalmology, or Neurosurgery.It provides exposure to important aspects of neuro-ophthalmic disease: optic nerve disease, double vision, eye movement disorders, visual field abnormalities, etc.

OP 0409 - Basic Ophthalmology

Credit(s): 2-4 Credits

This elective provides students with the opportunity to develop their knowledge of basic clinical ophthalmology and to acquire basic skills to perform an ophthalmic examination.

OP 0901 - Ophthalmology Direct Patient Care

Credit(s): 1-12 Credits (Repeatable for credit)

This course may be used to register for an Ophthalmology elective. The elective experience must fulfill the requirements for a direct-patient care elective. The location of the experience may be at a SLU SOM affiliate or at another health care institution.
