Psychology, B.S. (Harris-Stowe) to Social Work, M.S.W.

Students in the accelerated Harris-Stowe State University Bachelor of Science in Psychology to Saint Louis University Master of Social Work can take classes for the M.S.W. at SLU while finishing their B.S. at HSSU. Students can choose the clinical concentration or the community and organization specialization in the Master of Social Work.

Students in their last year at HSSU have the option to register in online or in-person classes, and once they graduate from HSSU, they may complete the Master of Social Work online or on campus. Students may take up to 12 credits at SLU as a HSSU student and apply up to 12 SLU M.S.W. credits toward the B.S. at HSSU.

Admissions Requirements

Students seeking admittance to the accelerated program must apply no later than March 1 of their third/junior year at Harris-Stowe State University. Students will select the admit term of the first semester they plan to enter SLU's M.S.W. program and indicate they are applying as part of an approved accelerated program.

To be eligible for admission to the accelerated program, students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher and a major GPA of 3.2 or higher at HSSU. Students must also have attained a grade of B or better in the following courses at HSSU:

  • (PSYC 225) Psychology of Crime & Delinquency 
  • (PSYC 220) Research Writing 
  • (PSYC 215) Psychopathology 
  • (PSYC 285) Drugs and Behavior 

Program Requirements 

Students may take up to 12 credits of M.S.W. courses during the accelerated program while they are still an HSSU undergraduate student: 6 credits in the fall, and 6 credits in the spring. HSSU will accept up to 12 credits of M.S.W. coursework towards the bachelor's at HSSU. Below are the recommended M.S.W. courses students can take as part of the accelerated program:

Progression Requirements

To be eligible for progression into the M.S.W. program upon conferral of the B.S., students must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher at HSSU while participating in the accelerated program.
