ORTS 0403 - Orthopaedic Surgery- Spinal Deformity

Credit(s): 2-12 Credits

The student will work directly with residents and attending staff, and is expected to participate as an active team member in the direct delivery of inpatient and outpatient care. While in this elective, participation in the weekly spine conference on Monday morning is required. In addition, students are encouraged to attend conferences of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery which are held at the Saint Louis University.

ORTS 0404 - Pediatric Orthopaedics

Credit(s): 2-12 Credits

The student will work directly with residents and attending staff, and is expected to participate as an active team member in the direct delivery of inpatient and outpatient care. In-house call is optional. While on the Pediatric Service, participation in sub-specialty clinics is required. Regular weekly rounds and conferences are held at Cardinal Glennon every Monday and Friday. In addition, students are encouraged to attend conference of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery which are held at Saint Louis University on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings.Students must contact Janell Britton (577-8850 or email brittonj@slu.edu) two weeks prior to the course to confirm course and receive instructions.

ORTS 0405 - Orthopaedic Surgery- Sports Medicine

Credit(s): 2-12 Credits

The student will work directly with residents and attending staff, and is expected to participate as an active team member in the direct delivery of inpatient and outpatient care. In addition, students are encouraged to attend conferences of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery which are held at the Saint Louis University on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings and MRI conference one evening a month. Students will also be encouraged to participate in assisting with physician team coverage depending on the time of year.

ORTS 0407 - Visiting Student Orthopedic Surgery Rotation

Credit(s): 4 Credits

This course is intended for visiting students only. It will serve as an introduction to the SLU Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. The student will rotate on trauma, total joint reconstruction, and spine. It is a 4 week course.

ORTS 0501 - Acting Internship: Adult Orthopaedic Trauma at Saint Louis University Hospital

Credit(s): 2-12 Credits (Repeatable for credit)

The student is part of the Orthopaedic Surgery Trauma Service and is an active participant in patient evaluation, surgery and regularly scheduled conferences in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. The student will work directly with residents and attending physicians and take call with an orthopaedic resident.
