IPE 2100 - Interprofessional Collaboration and Healthcare in Global Context

3 Credits

This course is designed to introduce and develop the knowledge, skills, behaviors of effective collaboration and interprofessional teamwork. There is also a core thread of developing one’s professional identity in the context of healthcare and care teams working on the shared goals of the Quadruple Aim in Healthcare. This course provides students with foundational skills and behaviors in effective teamwork and collaboration that will be further applied in IPE and profession-specific courses. Also, students are introduced to an overview of the influence of U.S. healthcare policy in shaping the structure, quality, financing, access, and safety of the healthcare environment while comparing to systems in a global context. Students will work collaboratively to develop an understanding of policy and advocacy and how to address barriers to equitable, quality healthcare to improve care and outcomes.

IPE 4200 - Applied Decision-Making in Interprofessional Practice

3 Credits

The course focuses on the development and application of demonstrable behaviors in a patient-centered care, a caring response, and improving care to achieve better individual patient outcomes through effective Interprofessional Collaborative Practice. Specific skills focus on applied ethical decision-making in the context of clinical cases, and the using the SHARE Approach to shared decision making in the context of interviewing patients. This course builds upon foundational knowledge and skills of effective teamwork and interprofessional practice developed in IPE 2100. Course themes and cases address Dignity, Ethics, and Social Justice in the access to and delivery of healthcare.

IPE 4900 - Interprofessional Community Practicum

This course is designed to further advance the development of collaboration-ready health professionals prepared to improve community and population health outcomes. It starts with the belief that every student in this course is intelligent, curious, and committed to service and supporting under-resourced communities as part of your professional practice. This is an applied practicum course in which student utilize previous IPE knowledge and skills in a community health setting, applying a service-learning model to achieve two primary goals: 1) to demonstrate effective interprofessional collaborative practice behaviors to address community & population health, and 2) to collaborate and learn about, from, and with a community health or social services agency to improve health or promote wellness among their target population. Students will be grouped into IP teams of five or six students and assigned to IPE-Community Partner Agencies.

IPE 4905 - Interprofessional Clinical Practicum

IPE 4970 - Interprofessional Practicum Experience for PT

This course is designed to provide an opportunity for students to integrate the theory and practice of interprofessional teamwork during their clinical rotations in physical therapy. Students will be asked to examine interprofessional practice in physical therapy at two different clinical sites and compare the interprofessional experiences and practice at each site. This course will be conducted online with students gaining interprofessional clinical experience during Clinical Rotations I and II in Program in Physical Therapy.

Prerequisite(s): IPE 3500 with a grade of C or higher; IPE 4200 with a grade of C or higher

Restrictions:

Enrollment is limited to students with a concentration in Physical Therapy.
