Drake University Bachelor's to Master of Athletic Training (Beginning Summer 2026)

The Drake University Bachelor's to Master of Athletic Training program provides an accelerated pathway for students to complete their Bachelor of Science degree in Health Sciences or Kinesiology at Drake University and a Master of Athletic Training (MAT) at Saint Louis University. Students in this program will save themselves time and money by reducing their total education for these two degrees by a year, effectively allowing them to earn a bachelor's and master's degree in 5 years. 

SLU's MAT program will save two spots annually for Drake students, provided they meet the admission requirements, including prerequisites, but additional spots will be considered on a space available basis. Students will be able to start their MAT before their Drake bachelor's degree has been conferred and use credits from their first year of the MAT program to earn their bachelor's degree at Drake.

Admission Requirements

Students must meet admission requirements for all students applying for the Master of Athletic Training at Saint Louis University. Students must have a record of high academic achievement with at least a 3.00 cumulative GPA and have completed or plan to complete all prerequisite courses during the year of their application. Please visit the MAT admission requirements for more information. 

Students must submit their application through the ATCAS application system during the third year of the B.S. degree program at Drake University. Applications are reviewed and acceptances completed on a rolling basis. A new application cycle opens each year on or around July 1, but students must apply by April 1st of their junior year. 

Program Requirements

Undergraduate course credits used to earn the B.S. degree in Health Science or Kinesiology at Drake cannot be used to meet the requirements to earn the MAT at SLU. Credits earned in the MAT may be used to fulfill remaining requirements of the B.S. degree at Drake. The translation of grades from those awarded by the MAT program to those recorded internally by Drake shall be solely within the control of Drake. Also, solely within the control of Drake shall be the following arising from the completion of classes at Drake by the student: (1) the award of credits toward Drake's bachelor's credit requirement and (2) the satisfaction of Drake's general education requirements. Grades from the first year at SLU shall not be used in the calculation of Drake's academic rank and honors. 

At the end of their first year at SLU, which would also be their final year at Drake, students will need to provide their final, official transcript from Drake to SLU to prove bachelor's degree conferral. Students will not be able to progress into their final year of the MAT until they have provided their final Drake transcript showing degree conferral. 

Roadmaps are recommended semester-by-semester plans of study for programs and assume full-time enrollment unless otherwise noted.  

Courses and milestones designated as critical (marked with !) must be completed in the semester listed to ensure a timely graduation. Transfer credit may change the roadmap.

This roadmap should not be used in the place of regular academic advising appointments. All students are encouraged to meet with their advisor/mentor each semester. Requirements, course availability and sequencing are subject to change.
